Omani perfumery follows centuries-old traditions, passed down through generations. Local perfumers use handcrafted distillation, natural ingredients, and meticulous blending techniques to create fragrances that are not only beautiful but also meaningful.
1. Hand-Distilled Rose Water from Jebel Akhdar
Omani rose water is extracted from Damask roses grown in the mountains of Jebel Akhdar. The flowers are harvested early in the morning, when they contain the highest concentration of aromatic oils, and are then distilled using traditional copper stills.
2. Frankincense Extraction – A Gift from Dhofar
Frankincense, Oman’s most prized aromatic ingredient, is harvested by hand. The resin is tapped from Boswellia sacra trees and left to dry. It is then distilled or used in its raw form as incense.
3. Hand-Blending – The Perfumers’ Craft
Omani perfumers create fragrance blends by hand, often following secret family recipes passed down through generations. Each oil is carefully selected to create a balanced and harmonious composition.
4. Natural Maceration – A Time-Honored Aging Process
Unlike industrial perfumes that use synthetic stabilizers, Omani perfumes often undergo natural maceration. The oils are aged in dark cellars for months, allowing the scents to develop their full depth.
